When it comes to tackling the problem of single-use plastic bags we tend to think of shopping bags however plastic produce bags (the thin clear bags we see in our fruit and veg aisles) are just as problematic.
What's the solution?
A bundle of three reusable drawstring organic cotton produce bags, GOTS certified and produced ethically. Produce bags have become the go-to for all of us trying to eliminate plastic from our lives. They’re incredibly handy on the go and have an infinite number of uses.
They're perfect for carrying loose produce and dry goods, from pasta to salad greens. The options are endless. Why not use the bags for your make up, travel items or gifts? They are lightweight making them perfect for popping in your bag and for weighing produce in stores.
The bags have a handy drawstring closure and because they are made from all natural fibres, the produce inside can 'breathe' whilst being stored, preventing condensation forming and resulting in food staying fresher for much longer than in plastic or paper. Take the bags with you on shopping trips and proudly refuse the single use plastic or paper bags that's still widely on offer!
Produced responsibly by a family run business in India from GOTS certified organic cotton. The labels inside include the 'tare weight' of the bag which helps the shopkeeper to determine the weight of the produce inside.
The bundle includes one of each three sizes:
Small - 18cm (W) x 22cm (H)
Medium - 26cm (W) x 32cm (H)
Large - 34cm (W) x 38cm (H)
Machine washable and line dry.
- Plastic Free and Zero Waste
- Made with Organic Cotton
- The cotton is grown on non GM, small farms in South India where the dry climate helps the cotton to grow well. It is then woven in GOTS certified weaving units and sewn into bags.
- The producer is a family business that makes the bags in their own sewing unit in Tamil Nadu, India. Green Pioneer visited the unit in 2018 and were impressed by the high standards.
- GOTS Certified - The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
